Jigsaw Puzzle Cut Terminology

This page is under construction.

Terms: Tab / hole

Identical:All pieces, except typically the edges, are of the same general shape. Normally this will be two tabs on opposite sides, and two holes on opposite sides. The exact shape of the edges, tabs, and holes may vary from piece to piece

Perfectly Identical: All of the pieces, except possibly the edges, are cut absolutely identically.

Grid: When assembled, the pieces form at least rough, but distinct, grid.

Perfect Grid: In addition to being a grid, when two adjacent pieces are connected, they should share two edges, which smoothly connect.

Squished: Vertical and horizontal pieces have distinctly different aspect ratios, making it possible to identify the orientation of any given piece.
